Things To Consider Before Renting

In this episode we will talk about some things that one should consider before committing to a storage unit. This is things that you should ask yourself, and perhaps the facility before signing a lease. I am aware that we all love that sinking feeling once we sign a contract, or order something, only to realize we got the wrong thing.  Then having to go through all the fun of getting out of the lease, and having to look all over again. Let’s try to avoid that scenario.

A couple of things to think on when renting a unit include accessibility, price, security, location, and availability. Perhaps one of the first thing to check is the availability. No sense in wasting a lot of time going to a facility and so forth to find that they are full. So, give them a call and see what’s up before wasting the day. While you are on the phone with the facility, go ahead and check out the price. Or you can look online as some companies will post the price and availability, but check that out, and see if it is even in your range or an option.

Moving on to Accessibility, make sure that the facility meets your needs. So, if you know you have items you can only load in a drive-up style unit, ensure this is what you are getting. Further, if you have a special need, see that the unit is serviceable to you. The facility hours play into this as well. Can you get your items, or store them at the times you are available? Location is key. Pick a facility that is near where you need it to be. If you need to access your items, and they are inconveniently located across town, that will get old after a while.

The last point we will cover, is security. The facility needs to have some security to help keep your belongings safe. Cameras, gates, and locks all help ensure that your items will be there when you are ready to get them. This list doesn’t cover it all but may help bring some areas to focus you did not think of before renting your unit. Pro tip: bring a photo ID when you arrive to rent the unit.
