This go around we are going to discuss some spring-cleaning tips and ideas. This is the time of year to make the decision; do you need to clean out your unit, or do you need to rent a unit to store the unnecessary items; clearing space in the house? If you already have a storage unit filled with belongings, this may be the time to free up some space in it. The weather is finally warming up, and inviting days are upon us, let’s go do some organizing. If the unit is not climate controlled, now is a good time to check and make sure you had properly packed everything, and all survived the winter. Let’s jump right into this discussion.

When deciding if something should go into storage or hang around the house, you can try a couple of tips to help with the decision. Try rearranging the area and as you do, sort the items into various categories, such as, keep, maybe keep, and donate/trash.  With the obvious categories, keep and donate, you know what to do, but this middle “maybe” category, that is where the trouble occurs. Here you must decide, will I ever use this again, or is it time to pass it along to another happy home? If you cannot bring yourself to rid yourself of it forever, then perhaps investigate a storage unit to save you some room at home. As you go from room to room, you will be cleaning and reorganizing to freshen the place up.

Some items you may consider as you venture around the house would include things like clothing, decorations, and seasonal equipment. With these categories, think of your heavy winter clothing, seasonal sporting equipment, and holiday decorations that are gone for a few months. It is always nice to pack these, and get them from under foot for a bit, and make the home tidier.

If you already have the unit, and have nicely stored your items, this would be a good time to go and inspect it. You need to check and make sure that everything was properly packed and survived the cold. Also, you can follow the same pattern as above with sorting. If something has been stored now for a few months, and you realize that you will not be using it in the future, plan on ridding yourself of it to bring joy to another.
