This time around we will be discussing how to best organize
your unit if you need frequent access to the stored items. I know that one of
my favorite pastimes is searching for my stuff. I will know that I have a
particular item, remember putting it away, but then it seems to stop there.
Where exactly did I put it? It’s always a fun seek and find adventure. There
are those fun-filled days of unpacking your unit, digging through every box,
and then trying to stuff it all back in. What if I told you there was a better
way? Could better planning help with this? Let’s move on to try and find out.
This first tip seems almost to go without saying; label the
box. Not just with vague terms like “kitchen” or “bedroom” but more specific,
like, itemize the box. Now, I am not saying that it has to be down to the
grain, but a good list will help eliminate some wasted time. If all you must do
is look at the printed list, it will go better than opening and searching every
container.
Another option along this line is to create a master list.
This will be time consuming, but could save you in the long run depending on
how often you end up accessing your items. With this method, numbering the
boxes, then having the itemization on your list would be the way to go. With both
this method, and the previous, you would have to make sure to have the labels
readable from whichever side is visible.
Properly place the boxes where they are the most needed. So,
if you have boxes that you will need to access frequently, then place those at
the front of the unit. And the things that you don’t need to access frequently,
well put those further back, and if heavier, then place them on the bottom of
your stacks.
Make sure to leave walkways through the units. Here, no
matter what organization method you choose, leave yourself enough room to
easily navigate the unit. This will make your job much easier, and safer, as
you retrieve your valuables. There are many ways to organize, and no specific
way that is the right or wrong way, it is what works best for you.
